1. When will Study.com begin to offer non-proctored final exams?
    1. We are launching this new verification process in early January 2025. It will be initially released to a limited number of students before an anticipated wide release in the coming months.
    2. Important: If the new verification process has not yet been released to you, then the information on this page does not yet apply to you. In that case, you will need to comply with the exam guidelines explained on this page: How to Take a Study.com Proctored Exam.
  2. Are exam sessions video recorded?
    1. Exam sessions are not video recorded. You may be asked for a short photo verification of yourself through an identity verification platform called Veriff, before beginning an exam. You will not need to leave your camera on during the entire exam.
  3. How is my identity verified before starting an exam?
    1. We work with two providers, TypingDNA and Veriff, to ensure that each College Saver student is taking their own final exams for college credit. Before taking each exam, users will be prompted to complete a verification process with one or both of these providers.
  4. What is TypingDNA, and how does it work?
    1. TypingDNA provides biometric authentication of users by analyzing keystroke patterns from typing samples generated by the same user across multiple sessions. Before an exam, College Saver subscribers will be prompted to provide at least 3 “enrollment” samples of text during normal usage of Study.com. Then they will be prompted for a verification sample before beginning an exam for credit. If the samples are a match, the user will be admitted to the exam immediately. If they are not a match, alternate identification will be requested, using Veriff.
  5. What is Veriff?
    1. Veriff provides biometric authentication of users by analyzing a form of valid, government-issued identification against a live “selfie” photo of the user. When beginning an exam, College Saver subscribers will be prompted to validate their identity through this method if completed typing samples do not match or cannot be provided.
  6. Do I need any identification card? What kind of identification card can I use?
    1. You should always have a valid, government-issued identification document on hand when beginning an exam, in case Veriff authentication is necessary. Please refer to Veriff’s list of 12,000+ supported documents https://www.veriff.com/supported-countries. If you do not have one of the supported documents, please reach out to [email protected] for assistance. College Saver members will usually be able to begin exams solely through typing pattern authentication, but abnormalities may require the use of Veriff.
  7. Do I need a camera on my computer?
    1. If you have a smartphone or tablet with a camera, your computer does not need a camera. While College Saver members will usually be able to begin exams solely through typing pattern authentication, you should always have an internet-connected device with a camera available in case Veriff authentication is necessary. If prompted for Veriff authentication, users will be able to use a camera on the computer that is taking the exam, or a smartphone or tablet in their possession, to complete the verification process.
  8. Can I take exams on mobile devices and tablets?
    1. At this time, College Saver final exams for credit are only accessible through desktop and laptop devices.
  9. Can I step away from my device during an exam?
    1. Yes, you may step away from your device during your exam if necessary. Please remember that your exam is timed and the clock will continue to run while you are away from your device.
    2. If you have a medical reason to need extended breaks during your exam, please contact [email protected] at least one week before beginning your exam so our team can arrange extended-time accommodations. You will need to provide documentation from a healthcare professional or from a school that has previously offered this accommodation.
  10. Can I use notes on exams? Are exams open-book?
    1. After the non-proctored exam system has been released to you, you may use notes you’ve taken during your coursework, as well the course materials themselves, during the final exam. Please refer to the Academic Integrity Policy for a full list of guidelines. https://study.com/academy/popular/studycoms-academic-integrity-policy.html
  11. When will I get my results?
    1. In most cases, you will receive your exam results upon completion of your exam. In some instances, we may need additional time to review any abnormalities in your exam experience. Our team will endeavor to get you your final exam results as quickly as we can in all circumstances.
    2. If your course also requires any projects, then the timing of your course completion result will depend on the submission and grading of your projects. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
  12. What if I don’t use a keyboard?
    1. If you don’t use a keyboard, you will be able to bypass the TypingDNA step and verify your identity with Veriff.
    2. You may request this accommodation on-the-spot as you prepare to take the exam. For the smoothest experience, please contact [email protected] at least one week before beginning your exam, and we can set it up for you in advance.
  13. What if I broke my arm?
    1. If you temporarily cannot type normally but still wish to take a final exam with Study.com, you will be able to bypass the TypingDNA step and verify your identity with Veriff.

  14. How is my private identification data used?
    1. Your data is collected and stored in order to ensure that users who earn transfer credits on our platform are taking their own exams, in accordance with our Academic Integrity Policy. https://study.com/academy/popular/studycoms-academic-integrity-policy.html
  15. Is my identification data stored?
    1. Your typing patterns are stored in an encrypted form on Study.com and within TypingDNA’s secure system, and the photographic biometric data is stored within Veriff’s secure system. We do not store images of you or your government identification in our platform or servers.
  16. What happens if I get disconnected during the exam?
    1. You may simply rejoin the exam by either refreshing your browser, or clicking the “Resume Exam” link on your course page. Please be aware that the timer for your exam will continue to run even if you are disconnected. If you experience a severe connectivity issue during your exam, please contact [email protected] in order to discuss your options.
  17. The authentication services don’t seem to be working. What should I do?
    1. In the unlikely event that your identity is unable to be verified through either authentication service, please log out from Study.com, clear your browser cookies, log in, and try again. If you continue to experience difficulties, please contact [email protected] for assistance.
